any BOOT MANAGERS (Linux) that will let me boot an installation on external drive or external/internal CD/DVD.

Question by Communitybuilder: any BOOT MANAGERS (Linux) that will let me boot an installation on external drive or external/internal CD/DVD.
Perhaps a light version of Linux itself? Any virtual host that can do this without a lot of overhead?

I would say that you would have to go into the BIOS, by hitting Del, F1 or the key indicated on the start screen, then select advanced settings and changing the boot order.

Has anyone been able to get the Dell Laserjet 1320c working under Linux?

-

Question by Greek Oracle: Has anyone been able to get the Dell Laserjet 1320c working under Linux?
I have it now running under a Windows XP virtual machine, but I would like to print to it directly from Mandriva.

It has an ethernet adapter and I know the IP settings. I just need to know the printer language so I can pick a compatible driver for it. However the Dell website does not specify which printer language is being used except that it is Host-driven.

Hi, sorry, no, but I’m sure you can mail the service team at Dell’s. That’s a much better chance than putting up the question on yahoo.

Good luck

Anna

How do I set up a windows 7 Virtual box in linux?

-

Question by : How do I set up a windows 7 Virtual box in linux?
I keep geting this error message:The virtual machine execution may run into an error condition as described below. We suggest that you take an appropriate action to avert the error.

The host I/O cache for at least one controller is disabled and the medium ‘/home/****/.VirtualBox/HardDisks/Win7.vdi’ for this VM is located on an ext4 partition. There is a known Linux kernel bug which can lead to the corruption of the virtual disk image under these conditions.

Either enable the host I/O cache permanently in the VM settings or put the disk image and the snapshot folder onto a different file system.

“Either enable the host I/O cache permanently in the VM settings or put the disk image and the snapshot folder onto a different file system.”

I’m not sure what filesystems do work, you can check the VM forums. The I/o option is found under settings>storage.

That message isn’t and error. It’s a warning about a potential future error.

To get it going you need to attach the install DVD to the V-machine, again Settings>storage, and select or add a optical drive, and thing set it to the Win7 disk in your optical drive. Then the last thing to check is settings>system and enable booting from the CD, and place it first in the boot order. Click Okay, then start your virtual machine. It should boot up into a windows installation environment. Your left alt or crtl (i forgot wich) will unbind our mouse from the virtualized OS window. (After installation make sure to unmount the installation cd)
