Hi,

All incoming messages have a Header attached to them using which it can be identified from where they have arrived. Although you may not be able to look up the exact point of origin, however you can find some information from the same.

Eg: if you are using Yahoo Mail, look for Full Header option (Click Drop Down in front of Compact Header option) and you can find the host IP.

Using web based tools like the below link, you can look up the details of the IP.

Hope this helps.

Wireless..:)

What can you tell from the host part of an IP address?

-

Question by ComputerGeek: What can you tell from the host part of an IP address?
I am trying to figure out if two e-mails I got came from the same computer. The first 3 sections of the IP address are the same, but the last one is different for each e-mail. Does this mean they still came from the same person/computer?

Do a WHOIS search on the IP addresses to check the host. Sometimes you are able to get the owner or company name if they came from different computers on the same network.

Type the IP addresses in here:

You did not give so much Information about your problem, Is it a local network ? or Internet ? anyway, I think a Firewall can help you in that, and you have to be an advanced user of it and know how to handle it. I am not talking about the very lazy Windows Firewall, The best one is Kerio Personal Firewall.

Can I ping host with private ip address from internet?

Question by : Can I ping host with private ip address from internet?

You can’t ping the private address. You can get packets (not a ping) to a host with a private address by sending packets to the public address on a port that has been forwarded to the private host.

If it is a web server, for instance the admin may have forwarded port 80 on the public side of the router to port 80 on 192.168.x.x. If so, you’ll be able to reach it just like it was on the public router.

If this is the only host in the DMZ some admins forward all traffic to it… but that’s risky. If he did, just send your request to the public address.

You need to have some sort of DHCP server setup. In your case, you need to purchase a router from best buy or some place like that.
