installing Ubuntu 7 on Virtual PC 2007. mouse won’t work??

Question by Derrick E: installing Ubuntu 7 on Virtual PC 2007. mouse won’t work??
My host OS is windows vista so i downloaded virtual pc 2007 and installed xp pro on it. that works fine.
but i installed Ubuntu after i installed xp and my mouse doesnt work on it. also, the first time i booted it the graphics were screwy so i had to boot in “safe graphics mode” but it didnt look like the mouse did anything when the graphics were screwy. i am on a laptop if that makes any difference.
Ok i installed virtual box like you said and it works fine, the problem is now that i can run ubuntu off the disc but the screen isnt big enough to navigate the menus to install it! ive tried all resolution settings i cant scroll down… any more ideas?

Hi, I am not really sure about how Virtual PC’s Linux support is.

I would suggest u install virtual box from:

http://www.virtualbox.org

Just in case did u make the correct settings for the Linux system, Ubuntu uses Linux kernel 2.6.22 or 2.6 for short.

Good Luck!

Can someone tell me how to build a VIRTUAL LAN (virual network) using VirtualBox OR MS virtual PC 2007? detail?

Question by : Can someone tell me how to build a VIRTUAL LAN (virual network) using VirtualBox OR MS virtual PC 2007? detail?
Using either VirtualBox OR Virtual PC 2007 I want to build a network with serveral virtual PCs. I’m using MS XP sp2 for all PCs (including host). For the case of Virtual PC 2007, I used MS loop-back adapter and tried to build a network but faild. For tha case of virtaulBox also result is same.

I search in google and found some interesting facts how to do it, but they couldn’t help me. I’m still learning and want to do practicles on networking & server accessing (i.e running web, e-mail servers etc). Therefore, if someone can kindly give me STEP-BY-STEP instructions on building a virtual network, it’ll be a greate help to my studies.

AS a SUMMARY; I WANT A VIRTUAL NETWORK such that GUEST OS MUST BE ABLE TO TALK TO HOST and HOST SHOULD BE ABLE TO TALK TO GUEST OS. (i.e. ping should work from guest to host and host to guess)

regards.
Please give me any good references as well.

Thanks again.

There is lots of information out on the internet regarding the use of Virtual PC 2007. The amount of detail that’s needed to run a guest PC is extensive so I’m not going to step by step on how. I will tell you using the loopback adapter won’t work. If you have a physical adapter on the host you need to use that. If you don’t have a physical adapter put one it.

What do you think? Answer below!

Will Virtual PC 2007 recognize 64bit if it is installed on a 32bit OS?

-

Question by : Will Virtual PC 2007 recognize 64bit if it is installed on a 32bit OS?
This is somewhat of a confusing question…

The system that I am using has 8GB of RAM. 32bit only supports 3gb of that. The system is actually going to mainly be used as a server, which will be hosted on a virtual PC. If I install another operating system (say.. Linux Ubuntu 64 bit) will this virtual pc recognize my computer as having a full 8GB or memory or only 3GB because it is restricted by the 32bit OS that is being installed from?

Wow.. I feel confused just asking that.

Win XP 32bit > Ubuntu 64 Bit on Virtual PC > Does Ubuntu get the full 8GB or ram or only 3?
Yes, I have gb ram on 64bit windows 7 currently. However, Windows 7 Home edition isn’t supported by Virtual PC (only Professional+)

I need to have a computer that can fulfill 2 tasks… Windows based and capable of using Photoshop/Dreamweaver and also being a server.

Because of this, I was wanting to host a virtual PC. The virtual PC would have a copy of Linux on it. On the server, I would need the full 8GB or ram.

On the Windows part of it, I wouldn’t neccessarily need the full 8gb. (I have a copy of Win XP Pro but it is only 32bit).

I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can’t dual boot because I need to have both running at the same time.

Unless I can find some hosting software (possibly XXAMP) to host from on Windows 7 Home and don’t worry about the Linux part of it.
For anyone else with this problem, I have found an answer.

Forget Virtual PC 2007. Don’t rely on Microsoft.

http://www.virtualbox.org

This is the same program, only Open Source and supports Windows 7 Home.
