My internet crashes everytime I try to upload something?

-

Question by kumquatmaan: My internet crashes everytime I try to upload something?
When I try to upload an assignment on virtual school, or a photo on Facebook, or even a video on Youtube my computer has a window that pops up, that says “Windows Host process (Rundll32) has stopped working”. Then a Google Chrome pop up says “Google Chrome has become unresponsive” then my internet shuts down.

What is the VirtualBox equivalent setting for “Local Only” in Virtual PC, relating to net interface settings?

-

Question by keith105: What is the VirtualBox equivalent setting for “Local Only” in Virtual PC, relating to net interface settings?
I am setting up multiple VMs in VirtualBox and am used to using Virtual PC (but I’m using Linux as host OS) – which option ensures that the VIrtualBox network interfaces are local-only? Thanks
Just to clarify I want the virtual machines I create in virtualbox to be able to talk to each other, but don’t want them exposed to the Internet (i.e. my host computer’s network) – I will probably set them up on a seperate subnet too. Thanks

Has anyone been able to get the Dell Laserjet 1320c working under Linux?

-

Question by Greek Oracle: Has anyone been able to get the Dell Laserjet 1320c working under Linux?
I have it now running under a Windows XP virtual machine, but I would like to print to it directly from Mandriva.

It has an ethernet adapter and I know the IP settings. I just need to know the printer language so I can pick a compatible driver for it. However the Dell website does not specify which printer language is being used except that it is Host-driven.

Hi, sorry, no, but I’m sure you can mail the service team at Dell’s. That’s a much better chance than putting up the question on yahoo.

Good luck

How performant are USB external drives?

-

Question by Peter R: How performant are USB external drives?
I am considering getting an external hard drive and would like to know if the drives perform well. I do plan to use if for some data transfer intensive operations such as storing virtual machines drives (that will be connected to via the host application). It will also store my version control system (only I use the system) as well as other data files that I use regularly.

Basically I would like to know how the drives compare to internal drives and if it is feasible to store files that will be continuously read from and written to.

They’re not too bad, but since performance is you main focus, I would recommend a firewire or eSATA model, they have faster data transfer rates.

Creating a virtual hot spot on a laptop?[connecting gadgets to internet without a router for Wi-Fi connection]?

-

Question by zombie z: Creating a virtual hot spot on a laptop?[connecting gadgets to internet without a router for Wi-Fi connection]?
I want to use my laptop as a router so that I can connect my PSP 3000 to the internet.
I have tried searching on how to do so and got a few articles on how to do so. However, most of them are for either Win XP or Vista and I am currently using Win 7 and ofcourse its way too difficult to imply those techniques on Win 7..
I came across an article which said that i can used softwares which create virtual hot spots and turn my laptop into a router(host) through which i can connect my PSP. I tried using some like Connentify and Virtual AP but they didn’t work.Connectify uses WPA-2 encryption which is not accepted on a psp .
So, basically,..what I am asking is that can anyone suggest me a good and trusted software that might help?.
Or maybe I can tweak some setting so that my laptop simply acts like a router and the PSP detects the Wi-Fi signals and connect to it?
For you info-
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.
I am using a wireless broadband connection( A USB modem to be straight )
Have a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter. Broadcom NetLink Fast Ethernet(dunno what those two are for).

And ofcourse all that explains i don’t want to buy a router. Connecting that way is possible because i have seen a few videos for XP where it is done. However, the procedure for Win 7 is way more different and thats the problem. An example of such video is this -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k69jPfpxosc

Lastly and the most important of all..It should not be an ad-hoc connection but on Infrastructure mode.PSP aint a normal PC so it does not displays any ad-hoc connections nearby but shows only the normal Wi-Fi connections.
Any help would be appreciated.

All the different software such as connectify etc. use the same technique within windows 7 to create the virtual hotspot. So it doesn’t matter what software you use, it is gonna produce the same results. Connectify is by far the best one i have used, i would try to change the security for the hotspot within the connectify settings.

I would like to use a Dell Inspiron 530s intel pentium dual core, is it possible . I am presently Using Vista as the host and Solaris as the guest in Virtual box on the Dell 530s
any idea?

Best answer:

Answer by Nathan E
The E2160 Processor is not compatible with OS X. You would need at least an Intel Core 2 Duo (E8000 series)

As a side note, 10.5.4 is dated at this point. 10.5.5 is the most recent release.
