If you have an ip address resolved in your hosts file will your browser still DNS to resolve the hostname or just depend on the hosts file.

I think it depends on the files. But that’s only because some of them don’t want to be hosted.
Hope this helps!

Why do my ports need to be forwarded to a private IP address?

-

Question by Dan F: Why do my ports need to be forwarded to a private IP address?
I’ve been messing with my router, and I was wondering why I had to put my in local IP (192.168.#.#) when port forwarding for it to work at all?

For example, I forwarded some ports so I could host an online game. Does it only forward those ports for my computer? Will other computers on the same router be able to use them for hosting or will we have to change the ip to their local address?

Best answer:

Answer by Ty H
When you try to connect to a computer without being local when the port gets to the router the router then has to forward it to a computer, with the exception of a static IP address, without the router will just disconnect them, then if you forward it then whenever anyone connects on that port it will forward to the selected computer

New VPN from UK2 keeps You Safe Online

-

gI 64592 320x200 New VPN from UK2 keeps You Safe Online
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 20 January 2012

UK2.NET announce launch of new VPN service. The VPN will allow users to encrypt their data on any public or home network connection through any device, including iPhones, iPads and laptops. This extra layer of security helps to protect sensitive data when browsing online on shared or unsecure connections and has come as a welcome relief to many customers as fraud and data theft continue to grow in 2012.

Hundreds of thousands of people access public WIFI connections every day, most unaware of the security risk attached to joining a public network. They, without thinking, could be sharing all their passwords, private data and credit cards with hackers who have gained access to that same network. UK2s VPN will eliminate this risk as all online communication will be sent through an encrypted tunnel which will effectively hide this data.

Martin Baker, Managing Director of UK2, said: As a leading tech company in the UK we were concerned about our customers online security. We wanted to create a product which would minimise the risk of data theft and offer them an extra layer of protection against these security risks. Our new VPN service does just that.

Online security is not the only benefit the VPN service has to offer. UK2 have added more innovation to the VPN USPs which include being able to choose an IP location of your choice. Users will be able to setup their VPN in the USA or UK and will also be able to access this IP from anywhere in the world and on any internet enabled device.

The new VPN service is aimed at a much larger audience as online security is a concern for everyone with an internet connection. For more information on UK2s VPN please visit http://www.uk2.net/vpn/ or call 0800 612 2142

Not by IP, but if you’re hosting, you can kick people.

All they have to do is change a channel and come right back in, though.

Question by Lovey: I want to create multiple sites on a specific theme and want to host them with different hosting service.?
however i dont want that anybody whether an individual or search engine spider that all the sites are owned by one person thats me. can you please suggest me as to how i can categorize different sites to host on different server? for example i want to make 50 sites, out of which 20 will be very content rich and informative, 20 will have links with similar sites and remaining 10 will have copied articles, back links, directory links etc. if google or yahoo find that i am the owner of the last 10 category of site, they will ban all 50 sites. i want them to be safe and secure. can anyone suggest me a way to manage multiple IPs/hosting companies. Thanks.

It doesn’t matter if they are all hosted at the same hosting company. Hosting companies have so many sites they couldn’t possibly link them. What you need to do is get private registrations so that none of your information is displayed in the who-is lookup. You can do this at http://www.dakotawebhosting.com

Hosting a website from home: Static and Dynamic IPs?

-

Question by dfgs: Hosting a website from home: Static and Dynamic IPs?
So I know you need a static IP to host a website but if you are assigned a new IP each time you connect to the internet on a dynamic IP if you are always connected then surely the IP will remain the same, right?

Answer by Chip
Yes and no.

There are these things called DHCP Leases, which basically means that at regular intervals your ip address will “expire” and you have to get a new one. The length of time before expiration is set by your ISP – some of them let you keep the ip address indefinitely (until you disconnect), whereas others give you a new one every day.

There is something new that came out a couple years ago called Dynamic DNS. Basically it’s a piece of software that sits on your server that constantly updates your IP address in the DNS registry, so that users will always be able to access your site. It’s not quite as good as having a static IP but it’s close.
