Question by don: Network ID, Host ID, IP Address, Default Gateway and Subnet mask?

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/3415/network0b.jpg

According to the Image:-

“IP Address: Unique Device (host) Address.”
What is a host?

“Default Gateway: IP Address of the Router on the Same Physical Segment”
What is a Physical Segment?

Best answer:

Answer by Tim the Tech
A host is a device that is using the IP address, like your PC or laptop.

Same Physical Segment in a nutshell means that it is in the same IP range as your host, so if your IP address is 192.168.10.100 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 then in order to be in the same physical segment your router would need to have an address of 192.168.10.X.
This could get really in depth if we start explaining subnets etc., but in short form when a subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 it means that any device that wants to communicate with it must have an IP address that matches the first 3 sets of numbers. A subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 means that it only has to match the first 2 sets of numbers (in this example 192.168.X.X) and 255.0.0.0 only needs to be in the 192.X.X.X range.
Hope this helps

Does changing webhost affect SSL and/or Dedicated IP Address?

-

Question by questioner: Does changing webhost affect SSL and/or Dedicated IP Address?
So, I host my SSL, IP Address and website at a single entity. Now, I’d like to move my webhosting account to a new host, however, I’d like to leave my IP Address and SSL with my exisitng host. Domain is hosted elsewhere.

Thanks for your response

SSL certificate moves with server name https://www.example.com, regardless of hosting or ip address

IPv4 address stays with upstream provider, usually.

Forward DNS doesn’t matter. The only way you can get a reverse lookup is from your upstream provider (who provides the IP address and connectivity)

No. It is possible to find the IP address of every web site you go to. This is the principle of the Domain Name System (DNS).

It would be a HUGE security issue If you were able to access a site’s database (DB) from just their IP address. If that were the case, I could view Google’s database and find user passwords for GMail. It just isn’t possible from an outsider’s standpoint.

However, if you have the necessary items to view a databse, you should be able to access, read, and modify a database.

You need the domain name of the SQL server (usually mysql.example.com), the DB username, and the DB password. You can make a connection to a database through a scripting language such as PHP.

W3Schools has a great tutorial on PHP and MySQL interconnecting. Here’s the link:

Sign up on that webhost.. Then login to their control panel and click Account Information,, It’s the first button.. You will see all your FTP account details, it’s one of the best free webhosts.

For FTP uploader I would suggest you FileZilla, you can download it from that webhost, their is a link next to your FTP account details. They tell you your IP of your site.. A sub-domain name you can create in their Sub-Domain section on the control panel.
